The Tropic of Capricorn is actually a whole line across the Earth at approximately 23.5 degrees south of the Equator. The picture above was taken in Namibia, in one of the points along this line of latitude.
The line represents the southernmost point on Earth where the Sun can be directly overhead at noon, which occurs specifically on the winter solstice.
